Hundreds of FedEx packages were found tossed into an Alabama ravine, sheriff says

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook statement that deputies responded Wednesday afternoon to a canyon on private property, discovering between 300 and 400 FedEx packages of various sizes that appeared to have been dumped in the Canyon.

“We hope to have some answers soon,” the office said.

The mayor’s office said a FedEx area manager responded to the scene, and that the company “sent several trucks and drivers from all over the South” who were about to begin loading packages at sunrise Thursday.

An update Thursday morning by the mayor’s office said officials are “making an impact” on clean-up and recovery efforts.

In a statement to CNN, FedEx said, “The security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority and we are committed to treating our customers’ packages with the utmost care.”

“We are taking steps to recover and transport the damaged packages as soon as possible,” the statement said. “In addition to cooperating with law enforcement authorities, we are conducting a review of this situation and will take appropriate action.”
