Looking for more holiday deals? we visited Internet Week Guide To see the best sales for shopping before and during Black Friday.
Black Friday is just around the corner, and while the deals will kick in, there are ways to save more on your Amazon purchases with the right credit card. In fact, there are discounts available only with as little as 1 point or 1 cent in cash from an American Express, Chase, Citi, or Discover credit card. So, if you want to make the most of Black Friday while shopping on Amazon, check out six tips on how to get the best deal ever during this holiday big sale event.
If you have an American Express card that earns Membership Rewards points, you might be in luck. Amazon offers many promotions of up to 50% off your purchases, even saving $60. Other Amex Card members get 15% off up to $15 in savings. Both offers expire on December 31.
Keep in mind that these offers are targeted, so you’ll need to check your account to see if you qualify – read our guide on registering Amazon discounts with American Express cards to learn how.
If you’re on target, you’ll need to pay at least part of your purchases with American Express points to get the discount, but you can use as little as one point and then pay the rest with your credit card. While you can use your Amex points to cover your entire purchase, we don’t recommend this because one Amex point is only 0.7 cents on Amazon, and you can get more value for your Amex points when you redeem them for travel.
Simply use one Amex point to get these discounts, so you can save your points for better travel redemption.
In all offers, you can have any amount in your cart and you can even apply the offer across multiple shopping trips until you reach the maximum savings. The only caveat is that only items sold and shipped from Amazon are eligible for the discount.
See if you’re targeting an Amazon discount with your American Express Points.
If you have an American Express card, you are automatically eligible for Amex’s money-saving offers. New offers are added daily that can save you big money at many popular merchants or, in some cases, earn you extra points.
Right now, there’s an Amex offering that can score extra points for making purchases from Amazon. With this offer, you’ll earn 5 Membership Rewards points for every dollar you spend on Amazon, up to 2,500 additional points. This offer is valid until December 26, 2021.
If you don’t see any of the above offers on your card, be sure to check all of your American Express credit cards, each card shows different offers, and if you find the offer, be sure to click Add to Card on it before you start shopping at Amazon. However, once you add an offer to one card, that same offer will disappear from any other cards in your account, so be sure to add it to the specific credit card you intend to use for your Amazon purchases.
If you have an Amex offer for Amazon purchases like this, be sure to add it to your Amex Card that you want to use during Black Friday and Internet Monday.
Only a maximum of 100 Amex offers will appear at any one time, so if your account shows 100, you’ll need to click Add to Card on some of them even if you’re not interested in getting others to appear. Adding offers to your card doesn’t cost you anything and there’s no limit to the number of offers you can accept, so once you’ve added several offers, sign out of your account and back in again to see if any new offers pop up.
If you have a Chase credit card that earns Ultimate Rewards points — like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Freedom Unlimited® — you might be able to get 15% off your Amazon purchases, up to $15 in total savings. Again, this is a targeted promotion, so check out our guide to using Chase Points to get discounts on Amazon to see if you qualify.
Just like the American Express promotion, if you’re targeted with one of these Chase offers, you only need to apply one Chase point on your purchase to get the discount and you can pay the rest with your Chase card.
While you can use the points to pay for your entire purchase, you’ll get the most value for your Chase Points by redeeming them for travel opportunities, so we don’t recommend using your Amazon points beyond what you need to use for a discount.
Again, this discount only applies to items sold and shipped by Amazon, and is only valid on purchases made on Amazon through December 31, 2021.

Similar to Chase and American Express, Discover is also part of Amazon’s “Shop with Points” program, and Target cardholders can now get up to 40% off on Amazon for savings of up to $40 using Discover Cash Back to pay for a portion of your Amazon purchases or all.
There are at least five different forms of this targeted promotion, including the following:
- Get 40% off up to $40
- Get 30% off up to $30
- $30 off $150 purchase
- $10 off $50 buy
- $10 off $100 purchase
Like the Amex and Chase offerings, you’ll need to add a Discover Card to your Amazon account and then check to see if you’re targeted. Follow the instructions in our guide to saving money on Amazon with Discover Cards to go through the steps, and if you’re on target, be sure to use the offer before it expires on December 31.
Use your Discover credit card cashback to get a discount on your Amazon Prime Day purchases.
If you’re targeted for one of the Discover deals, all you have to do is apply at least one cent in Discover Cash back to your purchases, and you’ll be able to reap the savings. However, unlike the Amex and Chase programs, $1 in Discover Cashback equals $1 on Amazon, which is the same amount you get when redeeming Discover cashback in other ways. So, you can pay for your purchases in full with cashback if you wish and still get the most value for your Discover rewards.
As with other promotions, only products sold and shipped directly by Amazon are eligible for the discount, and you must link your card and register for the promotion in advance.

Those with a Citi ThankYou credit card can also get 50% off their Amazon purchases, and savings up to $15 when they pay for a portion of their purchases with ThankYou Points. This promotion ends on December 31, 2021, making it the perfect opportunity to save more on your holiday purchases.
Similar to other promotions, you’ll only need to use 1 Citi ThankYou to indicate an Amazon purchase, and you’ll want to stay away from using much more, as you can get more value from your ThankYou points when you use them for travel.
Again, this is a targeted offer, so you’ll need to verify your account to see if you qualify. But if you are, even if you don’t have anything to buy right now on Amazon, you can buy a gift card for yourself with a Citi discount—or any of the credit card discounts on our list—and cash out the savings later.

Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card holders get special treatment throughout Black Friday, and unlike the other offers on this list, you don’t have to worry about being targeted for a specific offer. Just being an Amazon Prime Rewards card holder will result in additional savings on certain items.
For example, Amazon Prime Rewards cards earn up to 25% off select products during the holidays, while other products show 10% savings, such as 10% back on select games. Amazon has already released their complete savings list, so this should be a great way to earn extra rewards when you make your purchases on Black Friday.
Finally, remember that Amazon Prime Rewards cardholders always earn 5% at Amazon Marketplace and Whole Foods throughout the year if you’re looking for a credit card to use year-round on Amazon. And if so, be sure to check out our guide to the best credit cards to use on Amazon for our other top picks.
